چکیده

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated that glomerular filtration rate (GFR) declines following treatment of hyperthyroidism independent of treatment modality. The post-treatment effects of Hill’s Prescription Diet y/d Feline on renal and muscle mass have not been evaluated. Hypothesis: Treatment of feline hyperthyroidism with y/d will create a euthyroid state with a decrease in renal function and an increase in muscle mass. Animals: Fifeteen client-owned cats with naturally occurring hyperthyroidism. Methods: Prospective observational study. Serum Cystatin C Concentrations in Cats with Hyperthyroidism and Chronic Kidney Disease

BACKGROUND Currently, no test can accurately predict the development of azotemia after treatment of hyperthyroidism. Serum cystatin C concentrations (sCysC) might be less influenced by changes in body muscle mass and so better indicate the presence of concurrent chronic kidney disease (CKD) in hyperthyroidism. HYPOTHESES sCysC will be higher in hyperthyroid cats that develop azotemia compared...
